Nora loved her school; in fact, it was one of her favourite places. So, for this year’s fundraiser, we wanted to work with Clearview Primary to highlight the arts and raise money for the school to be able to continue our work in honouring Nora and giving back.
Touch the Sky 2024
This year is divided into two parts. In the first part, we helped the school run an Art Showcase that exhibited the art talent of the 700+ children while honouring Nora's qualities, including resilience, a sense of adventure, sparkle, and a love of connection with others (whanaungatanga). The staff and children worked so hard and passionately to incorporate these qualities into their artwork, and it was beautiful to see how they each interpreted this.
The art, including paintings, sculptures, and everything in between, was then displayed for two days in the school hall; the quality of what was on show was phenomenal. It is clear that there are some talented artists at Te Kura O Mārama / Clearview Primary, and this event was a great opportunity for them to shine. Clearview whanau were invited to vote on their favourite art pieces. There was a steady flow of visitors to the hall while this Art Showcase was on. There were 220 electronic votes and a further 200 paper votes to sort through.
We are lucky enough to have the biggest-hearted and most talented artist, Kyla Rofe (www.kylakdesign.com), work with us this year. She came into the school to view the artwork. She had the very hard job of selecting just 12 of her top picks from the artwork, ranging from years 1 to 8. She also selected a supreme (overall) winner.
The second part of this event is an evening where a selection of the children's artwork is auctioned off. This is a way to bring the community together, celebrate the arts, and raise money for the school that Nora loved so much. We have collated Kyla’s picks with the community votes to have a total of 25 to auction off.

About Kyla K
We are incredibly lucky to work with Christchurch-based illustrative artist Kyla K. Kyla has a huge heart and understands our love of meaning and the use of words to portray what we value most, including Nora’s story. From our first meeting, we knew we had found the perfect fit to not only select the children’s art but to work with collaboratively. We cannot wait to update you soon with all the details.

About Touch the Sky

We miss Nora. Terribly. In Nora’s short 6 years she left a massive mark on this earth, and in the lives and hearts of so many people.
Nora brought our community together in so many ways, and her not being here won't stop that legacy.
When you come to Touch the Sky events you will see Nora in every aspect of what we do. Some will be obvious, and some will be in the deeper parts of her story.
Nora brought our community together in so many ways, and her not being here won't stop that legacy.
Striving to Touch the Sky - that's how Nora lived. She looked for the fun and adventure in her life. It served her well, and we will honour that.
